Amazing villa

by Anonymous

The villa was very clean and had everything we needed for cooking, the beach and pool area. The sunset views were amazing and just sitting out in the morning with a cup of coffee was amazing as well. The walk to the hotel and beach was very easy on a path behind the villa. Our teenage son loved it here as well. Highly recommend staying here.

We have been lucky enough to stay in some great places across the world, but this will go down as one of our absolute favorites. This is one of those rare stays that, while costly, is totally worth every penny. The home is a duplex villa located within a resort. While the company was great about communication, we still found check in a bit confusing due to the resort requirements. We were asked in the weeks prior to our arrival if we wanted to opt in for resort activities. We knew we had a full itinerary and wouldn't have use for the golf course, pool, etc., so we declined. We were told to stop at the main office on our way in, but when we did that they were confused as to why were where there if we weren't opting in. Emails made it sound as if we were obligated to take a tour of the resort amenities upon arrival, but thankfully that didn't end up being the case. Eventually we made it though the security gate and to our villa. The rest of the stay was easy, uncomplicated and perfect. This home is a showstopper. It's beautifully designed, yet comfortable and livable. The huge couch in the sunken living room was a nice place to hang out as a family of five at the end of some of our days there. Finding a living room that comfortably four adults and a teen isn't always easy at any price point. We like to buy local ingredients and cook when we travel. The grill was perfect for our needs and the kitchen was perfectly appointed. I say "perfectly" because not only was it well equipped, but the cabinets were discretely/tastefully labeled on the outside, meaning I didn't have to open 10 cabinets before I found the box grater! I wish every rental home, especially with large kitchens, had this feature. One of the other great features of this home was how much seating it has. We had the option of dining inside at the dining table, eating at the dining table on the lanai, or sitting at either of the two tables by the pool. Considering the weather in the area, and the SPECTACULAR sunset views of this home, that was a great perk and we enjoyed most of our meals outside. The bathrooms were spacious and well appointed. The bedrooms were lovely, with comfortable beds and quality linens. This home was impeccably clean (exceptionally clean, even at this price point where expectations are high.) The outdoor shower was a nice touch, allowing us to rinse off after days at the beach before coming inside. The private pool felt more private than I expected it to given the fact that this is technically a duplex. In fact, the way the villas are terraced and landscaped, this home felt surprisingly private all around. The resort itself is nice and the grounds are beautiful. There is a walking path to the beach area. We typically prefer more privacy than a resort offers, but we really enjoyed a) how surprisingly private this property felt, and b) being able to walk to the Luau and beach. We enjoyed the location of this home as it was very drivable to both Kona and Waimea (about 20 min if I remember correctly). The roads were easy, and we enjoyed being away from the main tourist areas. Overall, this property has made it to our family's "very special" list (and joins the ranks of a balcony home on a Venetian canal, a flat with a perfect view of the Eiffel Tower and a pool home with a lavender farm in Provence- not an easy feat.) We are very grateful to have been able to spend a week here as a family.

Perfect from start to finish

by Tim Gamble
This villa at Mauna Kea was the perfect location for our getaway. Plenty of space for folks to have some alone time, and perfect venues for gathering together. Sitting outside for breakfast, playing games in the living room, and cooking around the island in the kitchen, to name a few. The home is appointed with everything you could possibly need for a wonderful island holiday.

The home is spectacular. It sits up on a hill and has unobstructed views of the ocean. It’s a short walk down a path to the Mauna Kea Resort and beach. Definitely take a day to go across to the Hapuna Beach Resort.

Amazing property and resort!

by Diane Kloos
This property was simply everything we could have wanted, and more. We were somewhat worried before we arrived that we would be too far from the resort/beach and too far away for amazing ocean views. These worries were unfounded. The resort and beach are a quick 5-7 minute walk (hint...take trail directly under property to next level homes, then join the beach path. Took us a few days to figure out the quickest way). The ocean views are even closer than they seem in the pictures. We saw multiple whale breachings during our 12 night stay. They even have quality binoculars for that purpose. Saw many a sunset sitting on the patio with a cocktail, and the star-gazing at night was incredible. The house is extremely well-appointed. Comfortable furnishings, GREAT beds/pillows, and more than enough towels and beach towels for a group. I appreciated the homey decor, artwork, sculptures, books, etc that make it a "home" instead of a sterile vacation rental. Although we never used them, there is snorkel equipment, beach chairs, boogie boards, etc. in the garage. And the kitchen.....it made me want to go home to BedBath and Beyond to upgrade everything in my own kitchen! Top of the line appliances and more dishes, glassware, cookware, and kitchen gadgets than you could ever need. We did a fair amount of cooking at the property and I always had everything I needed. I also appreciated that the pantry had a fair amount of spices, oils, condiments and such that we were permitted to use. The property management team was friendly and easy to work with. Communications were prompt and through, and Kirsten did a full walk-through of the house for us upon arrival. We had a few minor issues during our stay (a running toilet and a fuse out) and she had someone out that very day to fix the problems.

Paradise and More

by Joan Fitton
First let me begin with a shout out to the property management team. As real estate professionals, my husband and I know the importance of what happens behind the scenes to ensure a property is at its peak. We received a text from Mark LeRoy to let us know he was at the property to greet us. He took his time going through all the systems, pool/spa demo, the house book, and offered local recommendations. What a great way to start our vacation. The property is amazing. The moment Mark opened the door for us we knew this was one of the nicest places we have ever stay. The location---SUPERB! From the pool area we could see Kona to the south and pan all the way North to the North Kohala Coast with views of Maui. The home is furnished beautifully and comfortably. Loved the fact that the cabinets are labelled----it made the drill of opening 10 drawers to find something so much easier. Need glasses--look for the label! The kitchen was exceptionally well stocked. We felt guilty NOT cooking here. Whatever item you would need to prepare a gourmet meal could be found! The linen closet in the second bath had more towels than we would possibly need during our stay. The splash pool and spa were wonderful. By the end of our stay, the weather was getting warmer and it was easy to go right into the pool. We enjoyed watching the whales and dolphins from the upper tier of the patio. One day, we felt like we were at Sea World. We did purchase the Mauna Kea pass & found it to be useful for parking, etc. If you would prefer to walk to the beach it is about a 10 minute walk down a paved path. Just remember, after your day at the beach it is an uphill climb. We rented e-bicycles from Big Island Bike Tours in Waimea (thanks Alex and Karl with a K) and used them to go to the beach and explore the wonderful Mauna Kea property. The valet at Hapuna was gracious and let us leave them out front. It was awesome having a garage to store them. We enjoyed Sunday brunch at the Mauna Kea and lunch at the Hapuna Beach restaurant by the pool. This home is a short drive to the pretty little town of Hawi. Make sure to go to Bamboo Restaurant. Elements Jewelry and Fine Gifts has beautiful treasures to take home. No trip is complete without a visit to Lava Lava Beach Club in the Waikaloa area. Tip, do the call ahead seating! Wish there were more stars to give for this lovely property. Simply AMAZING!

We LOVE this villa!

by Brenda McGrath
Our 10 day stay at Mauna Kea Villa 39 was perfection. The Pacific Ocean sunset view was spectacular, enjoyed from the pool, living & dining area and bedrooms. Perfectly situated close to the resort and beach yet private. We enjoyed the pool & whirlpool both day and night. With minimal bright light we were able to star gaze; even the Milky Way was visible on clear nights.

Rooms with a view

by Erin Hall
This villa was gorgeous. The owners have fantastic taste in art and decor. Kitchen was big with everything you need. We cooked several meals and there is a large barbecue grill outside on the lenai. There is plenty of seating if you want to eat outside or by the pool. It was nice to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning before the heat of the day.

Beautiful property with wonderful amenities and gorgeous view!

We had two couples staying on the property and it worked out beautifully with lots of privacy and anything we needed was there. Easy for cooking your own meals and quick access to the Mauna Kea resort for eating out if you wish. Would love to go back next year!

Fantastic alternative to the hotel within resort!

by John Hall
This villa was spectacular, with luxurious bathrooms, a beautiful and very well equipped kitchen, a great bedroom layout and expansive common areas. Oh, and the stunning views. Very private, despite #40 next door. If, like us, you are used to staying at the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, and love its architecture, you will not be disappointed in this villa. For roughly 15% more than 1 deluxe ocean front room, you have an entire 3 bedroom villa. With the $95/day (total, not per person) resort fee, you have full access to all amenities, e.g. beach towels and lounges. It's about a 7-minute walk down a paved path to the hotel & beach, or a 90 second drive to the parking lot. We found the plunge pool a bit small and warm (at this time of year), but who cares when one of the world's best beaches is just down the hill? We arrived on Labor Day, with less than 72 hours notice. There was an AC issue upon arrival (blown compressor for half the villa) but it was fixed the next day, and the situation handled with professionalism. The AC was great for the remainder of the stay. Speedy internet (tested around 80 MB down, 8 up, but that was on my phone over wifi...) Nice TVs and services. Love the automatic solar shades in master and living areas. Very quiet and restful. Beautiful tropical landscaping views from the bathrooms (!). And nice art, etc, as you can see from the photos. Good laundry facilities. Comfortable beds and nice linens. An abundance of towels. Excellent communication with the property manager, via text, call, and in person.

We had a great week stay in Villa 39 at Mauna Kea. The villa location and furnishings are terrific.

by Paul Bednarz
Great location as were all able to frequently make the 5 minute to the beach and resort amenities. The villa interior design was beautiful and very comfortable. Plus, we all enjoyed our private pool & spa along with the romantic evening sunsets. We definitely hope to return to this special spot.

Family of four from Japan had a terrific stay at #39. The setting was wonderful and the interior quality was exceptional and tasteful. Felt like a paradise home away from home.

Phenomenal!

by Michael Smith
This newly renovated villa is a fully functional luxury 3 bedroom home. It was well-stocked, beautifully decorated, extremely well-maintained and, most importantly, out of the VOG. This by far a better value than any hotel room. If you are willing to do a little cooking, you can save enough in meal expenses to offset the cost of the villa.
