Strolling the grounds of Waikomo Streams Villa in Poipu is like walking through a fairy tale. A bamboo forest, brightly colored flowers, and a waterfall spilling into a serene pond where multi-colored koi swim are all waiting to be discovered on the property surrounding unit 121. This roomy one bedroom, one bath condominium located on the south side of the garden isle boasts a lanai where lush, green foliage provides privacy, shielding you from the view of the rest of the complex.

The dining nook is set up almost like an art gallery, where from the glass table set for four, you can view the artwork showcasing the beauty of Hawai’i. The kitchen pass-through offers some separation, while also keeping open sightlines to the rest of the space, and the greenery that lies beyond. The well-equipped kitchen is large for its galley-style, and has a sizable storage pantry off to the side to store snacks you pick during your stay. The breakfast bar offers additional seating, and opens up to the living room, so everyone can fraternize while the chef whips up a delicious meal. Guests will find the pull-out couch a comfortable spot to relax while watching a movie, and the foliage framed by the sliding doors leading out to the lanai prove a tranquil place to wake up in the morning. Settle into the lanai’s lounge chair or outdoor dining chairs and sip your morning coffee while listening to the melodic trills of the birdsong. A second glass slider gives you access to the bedroom, engulfed in natural light thanks to the room’s tall windows. There is a good-sized workspace available for your use, and the position of the queen-size bed takes full advantage of the garden views off the lanai. A well-appointed bathroom with a tiled shower/tub combo and plenty of counter space round out the unit.

Meander past the palm trees and the water-lily topped ponds to the community pool and hot tub, where you can spend time working on your tan then take a dip in the pool to combat those hot afternoons. Prep some teriyaki chicken and kalbi to cook on the outdoor BBQ, and gather around the covered seating area for a laid-back dining experience.

Venture out a little farther to Lawai beach, a 15 minute walk from Waikomo Streams, where you can swim out to the protected reef and see a variety of fish and other sea creatures, serving as a real life aquarium. Visit the Shops at Kukui’ula for fine dining at Eating House 1849 by Roy Yamaguichi or Merriman’s or browse the local boutiques to pick up souvenirs for friends and family or purchase something special for yourself.
